Biography
Ger Ger is an Austrian artist, photographer, and creative director who lives and works in Los Angeles. He also spends time in New York, Berlin, and Paris.
Ger combines conceptual art, photography, and cinematography with fashion, and interactive installations with performance art. To date, his work has been presented in over 150 exhibitions worldwide. Ger's awards include some of the most prestigious awards available such as a Prix Ars Electronica, an ADC Award from the Art Directors Club of New York, a Red Dot Design Award and 6 MIFAs. Among his clients are Vogue, L'Officiel, Interview, Harper's Bazaar, WWD, People, Billboard, Condé Nast, Hearst, NBC, LVMH, MoMA, APA, Getty Images, IMG Fashion, and Sony Pictures.
Ger has photographed icons like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, Usher, Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Werner Herzog, Mario Testino, Ellen von Unwerth, Paris Hilton, Tyra Banks, Jared Leto, Elijah Wood, Billie Eilish, Ben Stiller, Larry Flynt, Spike Jonze, Marina Abramovic, Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Jean Paul Gaultier, Diane von Furstenberg, Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld, Rick Owens, and many more.
Aside from his fashion, portraiture, and personal work, Ger has been invited to capture hundreds of runway shows, award ceremonies, and major events all over the world all-access from his own photojournalistic, documentary point of view. Iconic and emotionally charged moments turn into quiet images frozen in time, often captured from unexpected perspectives. Over the last two decades, Ger has developed a distinctive artistic voice and universal language spanning his different bodies of work. Most of his works explore the relationship between artistic expression, fashion, celebrity culture, places, human condition, and patterns of everyday life. Another recurring theme is the dissonance and harmony between nature and mankind. The line between reality and fiction frequently blurs.
Ger's work has been shown at Art Basel in Miami Beach (Miami Beach/USA), Ars Electronica (Linz/AUT), The National Art Center (Tokyo/JPN), Rencontres Internationales (Paris/FRA), Open (London/GBR), FILE (São Paulo/Curitiba/BRA), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna/AUT), Kyoto Art Center (Kyoto/JPN), Month Of Photography Los Angeles (Los Angeles/USA), Museums of Bat Yam (Tel Aviv/ISR), Electrohype (Malmö/SWE), Kunstraum Bethanien (Berlin/DEU), Centre de design de l'UQAM (Montreal/CAN), and many other venues.
Ger, a pro ambassador for f.i. Manfrotto, Gitzo, BenQ, Tamron, Avenger, Lowepro, Rosco, Seagate, Drobo, and Marshall Amplification, has also been lecturing and teaching at postgraduate institutions in the United States and internationally. Some of his recent noteworthy special projects include collaborations with Dior, Theater Basel, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and NASA. Ger is also the founder, creative director, and editor-in-chief of the international magazine The Unseasonal. As a purpose driven special projects magazine with timeless aesthetics and deep storytelling, it unifies fashion, art, travel, celebrity culture, and the human condition, and inspires to make the world a better place.

Born in Vienna in 1981, Ger felt drawn to art early in life. At 14, he received his first honors and awards, including the prestigious Japan Media Arts Award and Prix Ars Electronica. While still in high school, Ger was hired as an interaction/graphic designer and art director by leading companies and agencies like Silicon Graphics (SGI) and DMC (Neville Brody).
He studied under Peter Weibel and Karel Dudesek and holds an M.A. in Digital Arts and Visual Media Design from the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In 2002, Ger won a scholarship to the Berlin University of the Arts to attend Joachim Sauter's (ART+COM) New Media Art and Design class. He moved to Berlin where he also worked as a co-curator at the Jewish Museum Berlin, as a creative director for major advertising agencies and on personal art projects in his atelier until Summer 2009. Later that year, he founded the art studio LA K50. He relocated to California in 2011.
From 2013-2014, Ger was an adjunct professor and led the digital arts and photography lab for Claremont Graduate University's MFA art program.
